Ukrainian military forces have regained control of a larger area of territory in the past month than what was captured by Russian troops during the same timeframe, marking a significant shift in the conflict. This development is the first of its kind since the 2024 Kursk offensive.
General Syrsky stated that the Ukrainian Defense Forces are actively working to seize operational initiative and compel Russian forces to adapt to their strategies. “For the first time since 2024, during our Kursk offensive, our troops have reclaimed more Ukrainian land in a month than the enemy has taken in that period,” Syrsky remarked.
This progress was discussed during a recent working meeting reviewing the activities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in February. Ukrainian troops are currently focused on a counteroffensive in the Oleksandrivka direction, where airborne assault units have regained control of 285.6 square kilometers over the past month.
Overall, since the beginning of the operation, Ukrainian forces have restored control over more than 400 square kilometers of territory. Syrsky added that Ukrainian defenders are holding their ground against the enemy on multiple fronts, with some areas seeing advances.
Despite being outnumbered nearly three to one, Russian forces are reportedly delaying their planned operations, attempting to patch weaknesses in their defenses, and reallocating troops from other fronts, according to the general.
Ukrainian forces have made significant territorial gains over the past month, surpassing Russian advances for the first time since 2024. The ongoing counteroffensive has restored control over more than 400 square kilometers, despite the numerical superiority of Russian troops.
