The Ukrainian government has commenced a road repair initiative aimed at restoring the surface of international and national highways, with a completion target set for June 1, 2026.
During a recent meeting focused on road repairs, key officials including Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction Oleksiy Kuleba and Head of the State Agency for Reconstruction Serhiy Sukhomlyn were in attendance.
Deputy Prime Minister Svyrydenko confirmed that patch repairs on major highways have already begun, particularly in frontline regions. She emphasized that these efforts prioritize basic safety and road accessibility rather than extensive reconstruction. Current weather conditions are favorable for repair teams to operate effectively, and all work is expected to be completed by the stated deadline.
Additionally, the government has allocated an extra three billion hryvnias from the state budget’s reserve fund to finance these patch repairs, particularly in areas with heavy traffic. Repairs will also extend to public roads to enhance overall traffic flow.
The Prime Minister noted, “Roads are a matter of effective logistics for defense forces, evacuation of the wounded, and the overall functioning of the economy and communities.”
