Ukraine, US, and Russia Peace Talks Delayed Amid Iran Tensions

The anticipated peace negotiations involving Ukraine, the United States, and Russia have been postponed due to escalating tensions related to Iran. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has indicated that the dialogue with the US continues, but the tripartite meeting cannot proceed until the security situation stabilizes.

In a recent conversation with Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Zelensky emphasized the ongoing communication with US representatives. He stated, “Currently, due to the situation surrounding Iran, there are no necessary signals for a trilateral meeting. However, as soon as the security situation and overall political context allow for the continuation of this diplomatic work, it will be done. Ukraine is ready for this.”

Zelensky expressed gratitude to intelligence officials and the presidential office for their efforts in facilitating future prisoner exchanges with Russia. He remarked, “We are working to bring all our people home from Russian captivity. We hope for good news.”

According to a source within the Ukrainian delegation, the date and location for the next round of negotiations remain undetermined as of March 4. The source confirmed, “There are currently no dates or venues set for the next round of trilateral talks.”

Previously, it was expected that the negotiations would take place in Abu Dhabi in early March, specifically between March 5 and 8. On March 2, Zelensky had stated that the talks had not been postponed, despite ongoing US and Israeli operations against Iran.

However, on March 3, he suggested that the meeting in Abu Dhabi might not occur. He mentioned that the next round of discussions could potentially take place in Europe within a few days, citing Switzerland, Turkey, Austria, or the Vatican as possible locations.
