In the early hours of February 27, Ukrainian forces faced a significant drone assault from Russia, involving 187 strike drones, including Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas models. Ukrainian Air Force reported that 165 of these drones were successfully neutralized.
The drones were launched from various locations, including Bryansk, Oryol, Shatalovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, and from the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea, with approximately 120 identified as Shahed drones.
Ukrainian defense systems, including aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare divisions, and mobile fire groups, engaged in repelling the attack. According to preliminary data available by 8:30 AM, the air defense forces had destroyed or suppressed 165 enemy drones across the northern, southern, and eastern regions of Ukraine, with 20 drones striking 14 different locations.
The Ukrainian Air Force indicated that the assault was ongoing, with several Russian drones still active in the airspace.
