Canada Announces $1.4 Billion Military Aid Package for Ukraine Amid Ongoing Conflict

On February 24, marking the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Canadian government declared a military assistance package worth CAD 2 billion (approximately USD 1.4 billion) for Ukraine. This announcement coincides with the introduction of new sanctions against Russia, targeting its so-called ‘shadow fleet’ and implementing a reduction in the price cap on Russian oil.

The military aid, scheduled for the 2026-2027 fiscal years, aims to enhance the capabilities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, providing essential equipment for the defense of its territory. The package includes over 400 armored vehicles, comprising 66 light armored vehicles from General Dynamics and 383 Senator armored vehicles manufactured by Roshel.

In addition to this recent commitment, Canada has previously announced plans to supply Ukraine with a shipment of AIM missiles intended for air defense systems. Furthermore, in late December, the Canadian government revealed an economic assistance package amounting to CAD 2.5 billion for Ukraine.

Canada's recent military aid announcement underscores its ongoing support for Ukraine as the conflict with Russia persists. The aid package aims to bolster Ukraine's defense capabilities while new sanctions against Russia are introduced.
