Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed recent controversial remarks made by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who suggested Zelensky is a dictator responsible for the ongoing war in Ukraine.
During an interview, Zelensky was asked about Trump’s accusations, which echoed statements from Russian President Vladimir Putin. In response, Zelensky laughed and firmly stated, “I am not a dictator, and I did not start the war, that’s all.”
The discussion also touched on the topic of negotiations, specifically mentioning Trump’s special representative, Steve Witkoff, and the potential risk of the U.S. adopting Russian narratives. Zelensky emphasized that Witkoff has met with Ukrainian officials more frequently than with Russian counterparts. He noted, “Witkoff claims he has met with the Ukrainian side more often than with the Russians. I have had numerous meetings with President Trump, while President Trump has only had one meeting with Putin.”
Furthermore, Zelensky expressed his belief that the U.S. should focus on stopping Russian aggression rather than trying to appease Moscow, stating, “They (the Russians) only care about their own interests.”
