Zelensky Outlines Focus for Potential Talks with Putin

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has made it clear that if he were to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he would prioritize practical discussions over historical narratives or personal emotions.

In a recent statement, Zelensky emphasized that he would not engage in historical discussions favored by Putin, such as those about the Rurik dynasty or Peter the Great. Instead, he aims to concentrate solely on resolving the critical issues surrounding the ongoing conflict.

“There are security concerns, and we are facing a significant war. The only topic I want to discuss with him is how we can effectively and swiftly bring this war to an end, minimizing losses,” Zelensky remarked.

He further noted that during any dialogue with the Kremlin leader, he would refrain from expressing personal feelings, as he does not harbor any personal grievances against him. However, Zelensky acknowledged that he and his team have a clear understanding of the reasons behind the war.

“I have no personal grievances against him. No emotions. I simply understand how we are genuinely trying to conclude this war,” he stated.

As discussions about peace negotiations involving Ukraine, Russia, and the United States continue, the possibility of a meeting between Zelensky and Putin is gaining traction in media outlets. Zelensky has long expressed his willingness to engage in such a summit, but Russia has largely dismissed the idea, inviting him to Moscow instead. Zelensky has consistently refused to meet in Russia or Belarus but remains open to talks in other locations.

Recent negotiations held in Geneva on February 17-18 have also hinted at a potential meeting between the two leaders to address key issues where consensus has yet to be reached.

Ukrainian President Zelensky has stated that any potential meeting with Russian President Putin would focus solely on resolving the ongoing conflict, avoiding historical discussions and personal emotions. He remains open to talks outside of Russia or Belarus, as discussions about peace negotiations continue.
