Ukraine is set to experience a brief period of warmer weather over the upcoming weekend, with temperatures rising significantly before a return to cooler conditions. Meteorologist Natalka Didenko has shared insights on the expected weather patterns.
According to Didenko, temperatures will gradually increase to between +17 and +24 degrees Celsius, lasting for at least a week. However, a drop in temperatures is anticipated next weekend.
On May 2, temperatures across Ukraine will range from +9 to +13 degrees Celsius, with the western regions experiencing slightly warmer conditions, ranging from +12 to +16 degrees Celsius.
The following day, May 3, is forecasted to be even warmer, with daytime temperatures expected to reach +12 to +17 degrees Celsius, and +16 to +22 degrees Celsius in the west.
The weather will be predominantly dry and sunny throughout the weekend, thanks to the influence of an anticyclone. However, light rain is expected in the Chernivtsi region, as well as in Kherson and Crimea on May 2. Wind conditions are predicted to remain calm.
In the capital city of Kyiv, the weather will also be dry and sunny, with temperatures on May 2 ranging from +12 to +13 degrees Celsius, increasing to +16 to +18 degrees Celsius by May 3.
This warm spell is likely to continue into the following week, but forecasters warn of a subsequent cooling trend.
Didenko stated, “Temperatures will rise further during the week, reaching +17 to +24 degrees Celsius, but a slight decrease is expected next weekend.”
May Weather Outlook
April has been characterized by cooler and windier conditions in Ukraine, and forecasts suggest that May may also be slightly below average in temperature. The Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center anticipates average temperatures for May to be around +12 to +15 degrees Celsius, with mountainous areas in the Carpathians and Crimea seeing temperatures between +9 and +12 degrees Celsius, approximately 1.5 degrees below the climatic norm.
Precipitation is expected to range from 35 to 76 millimeters across the country. In western regions, particularly in Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and mountainous areas of Zakarpattia and Chernivtsi, rainfall could reach between 88 and 138 millimeters, which aligns with typical seasonal averages (80 to 120% of the norm).
