Illya Yemets, the former Minister of Health of Ukraine and long-time director of the Center for Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery, is once again at the center of a scandal. Recent allegations surfaced via the Telegram channel Harley Quinn, claiming that Yemets left Ukraine shortly after the onset of the full-scale invasion and suggesting possible connections between his family and Russia.
This is not the first time Yemets has been implicated in serious accusations. Previous reports have highlighted alleged misconduct towards hospital staff and investigations into his acquisition of luxury real estate in Greece during the conflict, as well as significant savings held by his unemployed wife.
According to Harley Quinn, Yemets reportedly departed Ukraine just days before the invasion while still overseeing the medical facility. The channel criticized him for abandoning his responsibilities, stating, “The doctor has yet to explain how he fled four days before the full-scale invasion, leaving behind the hospital and all the sick children he now uses for his own publicity. He stayed abroad while Kyiv was under threat and then returned as if nothing had happened, continuing to profit from tenders.”
The report also scrutinized Yemets’ family. It noted that his son, who works in public service, maintains social media accounts in Russian. Furthermore, his wife, Oleksandra Teleguzova, is said to have received her education from a university in Moscow.
Additionally, the channel mentioned Oleksandra’s father, who was reportedly caught accepting a bribe of 2.5 million for facilitating a promotion to the Ukrainian parliament. He currently holds a position as the head of the international relations department at Vinnytsia National Medical University.
Previous media coverage has also brought attention to the arrest of this official. Harley Quinn highlighted the financial status of Yemets’ son, who allegedly purchased property in Odesa and acquired a new 2025 Subaru Outback during the war, with an estimated price tag of around $50,000.
Illya Yemets has been a prominent figure in Ukrainian medicine, leading the Center for Pediatric Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery for over two decades and serving as Health Minister twice. He is recognized as one of Ukraine’s most renowned cardiac surgeons.
Illya Yemets, former Ukrainian Health Minister, faces renewed scrutiny over allegations of leaving the country during the invasion and potential ties to Russia. Previous accusations include misconduct and financial irregularities involving his family.
