Ukrainian Naval Forces Target Sanctioned Tanker ‘MARQUISE’ in Black Sea

The Ukrainian Navy has successfully struck the sanctioned tanker ‘MARQUISE’ in the Black Sea, approximately 210 kilometers southeast of the Russian port city of Tuapse. The vessel, which was reportedly unladen and not transmitting an AIS signal, is believed to have been preparing for illegal oil product transfers.

On the morning of April 29, Ukrainian military units deployed two unmanned naval drones to target the drifting tanker. According to military sources, the strike was directed at the stern of the vessel, specifically targeting the propeller-rudder group and engine room, potentially impacting its operational capabilities.

As of now, the extent of the damage inflicted on ‘MARQUISE’ is still being assessed. The tanker is reportedly under sanctions imposed by Ukraine, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Switzerland, Canada, and New Zealand, due to its involvement in the illegal transportation of oil products on behalf of Russia.

The Ukrainian Navy has conducted a successful operation against the sanctioned tanker 'MARQUISE', targeting its operational capabilities. This incident highlights ongoing maritime tensions and the enforcement of international sanctions against vessels involved in illicit activities.
