Ukrainian Military Chief Outlines New Rotation Strategy for Troops

Ukrainian Armed Forces Commander Oleksandr Syrskyi has announced plans to implement a structured rotation system for soldiers, allowing for three shifts of personnel to ensure continuous deployment every two months.

In an interview with the military-focused outlet “Militarnyi,” Syrskyi detailed the current composition of troops stationed at the front lines, highlighting the significant number of soldiers engaged in combat operations. He stated, “We have calculated everything, including the number of personnel in brigades and their presence in operational areas. There are many servicemen in combat zones… We have all the conditions to create three shifts and prepare the rotation teams accordingly.”

Syrskyi emphasized the importance of regular evaluations of the rotation process, committing to monthly checks. He set the 15th of each month as the date for these assessments. He noted that teams of officers are currently verifying the records of soldiers stationed at the front lines, including their duration of service in these positions. “We need to clarify the details and understand who will be replacing them, creating a control system for this process,” he added.

He acknowledged that the rotation process is complex and fraught with risks, underscoring the need for careful planning and execution.

On April 30, Syrskyi signed an order mandating the rotation of soldiers on the front lines. This decision came in response to growing concerns about the conditions faced by troops, particularly those from the 14th Brigade of the 2nd Mechanized Battalion, who have reportedly been in dire circumstances for eight months, struggling with shortages of food and clean water.

Following these revelations, the General Staff announced the dismissal of commanders from the 14th Brigade and the 10th Corps due to the failure to accurately report the situation at the front, loss of positions, and logistical shortcomings affecting the soldiers.

Ukrainian military leadership has introduced a new rotation plan for soldiers, aiming for systematic deployments every two months. This initiative follows concerns regarding the conditions faced by troops, particularly those in combat zones, and aims to enhance operational effectiveness and soldier welfare.
