Ukrainian Language Textbooks Introduced in French Colleges

The Academy of Versailles in France has received textbooks for teaching the Ukrainian language, aimed at supporting Ukrainian children in colleges and high schools.

This initiative was announced by the Ukrainian Embassy via its Facebook page, emphasizing the gradual efforts to make Ukrainian language education accessible to more students.

The textbooks provided include:

  • “Ukrainian Language” for grades 9 and 11 by Oleksandr Avramenko;
  • “Silver Bird” for grade 11 by Hryhoriy Semeniuk, Mykola Tkachuk, and Anatoliy Hulyak;
  • “Ukraine Amazes” for grades 5-9 by Serhiy Udovik.

These materials were supplied by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Institute for Modernization of Education Content.

In September 2025, the teaching of Ukrainian as a second foreign language began in colleges and high schools across four educational districts in France: Paris, Versailles, Créteil, and Nice.

Students enrolled in the French curriculum can choose Ukrainian as one of their foreign language options and will have the opportunity to take the Ukrainian language exam as part of the French national BAC exam starting in 2027.

A list of educational institutions offering Ukrainian language courses is available through the embassy’s resources.

The introduction of Ukrainian language textbooks in French educational institutions marks a significant step in supporting Ukrainian children. This initiative aims to enhance language accessibility and educational opportunities for students in France.
