Ukrainian Air Defense Responds to Russian Drone and Missile Attacks

On the evening of April 13, Russian forces launched a significant aerial assault on Ukraine, employing four guided missiles and 129 strike drones. Ukrainian air defense successfully intercepted one missile and neutralized 114 drones, although some managed to hit their targets.

As of 08:00, the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that air defense systems had downed a guided missile and 114 enemy drones, including various models such as Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas, across northern, southern, and eastern regions of the country.

The attack resulted in 12 drones striking eight locations, with debris from intercepted drones falling in five areas. Information regarding three enemy missiles is still being verified.

The missiles were reportedly launched from temporarily occupied territories in the Donetsk region, while the drones originated from several Russian cities, including Kursk, Oryol, Bryansk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk, as well as from Cape Chauda and the temporarily occupied parts of Donetsk.

Approximately 90 of the drones involved in the attack were identified as Shahed-type strike drones. Ukrainian defense forces, including aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups, actively engaged in repelling the assault.

The aerial attack is ongoing, with multiple enemy drones still reported in Ukrainian airspace.

Background: This incident follows a prior attack on the night of April 14, which resulted in damage to a Panamanian-flagged civilian vessel and port infrastructure in the city of Izmail, located in the Odesa region.

The recent Russian aerial assault on Ukraine involved missiles and drones, with Ukrainian air defense successfully intercepting a significant number of these threats. The ongoing conflict continues to escalate, affecting both military and civilian infrastructure.
