In the early hours of June 1, Russian forces launched a significant aerial assault on Ukraine, deploying 265 strike drones, including models like Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas. Ukrainian air defense successfully intercepted 228 of these drones, according to reports from the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The attack was met with a coordinated response involving aviation units, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare divisions, and mobile fire groups from Ukraine’s defense forces. The Ukrainian military detailed that as of 8:00 AM, they had neutralized a majority of the incoming threats.
“Preliminary data indicates that 228 enemy drones were shot down or suppressed across various regions, including the north, south, and east of the country,” the report stated.
Despite the high interception rate, the assault resulted in 27 drones successfully striking 18 locations, with debris reported in twelve areas. The Ukrainian military noted that the aerial assault was ongoing, with several drones still present in the skies.
A recent Russian drone attack on Ukraine saw the majority of incoming threats intercepted by Ukrainian air defense forces. Despite the high success rate, some drones managed to hit multiple locations, indicating the persistent challenge of aerial assaults.
