Ukrainian Air Defense Intercepts Majority of Russian Drone Attack

In the early hours of June 4, Ukrainian air defense successfully intercepted 264 out of 293 drones launched by Russian forces in an extensive nighttime assault. The attack involved a ballistic missile strike and targeted multiple locations across the country.

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the offensive began at 6:00 PM on June 3, with the Russian military deploying an Iskander-M ballistic missile from the Voronezh region. The drones included various models, such as the Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and loitering munitions known as “Banderoled,” as well as imitation drones referred to as “Parody,” launched from several regions including Kursk, Bryansk, and Crimea.

Ukrainian defense forces, including aviation units, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare divisions, and mobile fire groups, were engaged in countering the aerial threat.

  • As of 8:00 AM, preliminary reports indicated that air defense units had downed or suppressed 264 drones of various types across northern, southern, and eastern Ukraine.
  • Additionally, impacts from the ballistic missile and 24 attack drones were confirmed at 11 locations, with debris from the intercepted drones falling at 12 sites.

The assault is ongoing, and Ukrainian Air Force officials have warned that Russian drones remain active in the airspace.
