In the early hours of June 13, Russian forces launched a significant aerial assault on Ukraine, deploying a total of 118 drones, including Shahed-type unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), Gerbera, Italmas, and loitering munitions known as “Bandero”. Ukrainian air defense successfully neutralized 110 of these drones, according to reports from the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The drones were launched from various locations, including Orel, Kursk, Millerovo, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as from temporarily occupied territories in Donetsk and Crimea.
Ukrainian air defense capabilities were put to the test during this attack, employing a combination of aviation, surface-to-air missile systems, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups. The coordinated response was crucial in mitigating the impact of the assault.
As of 08:30 on June 13, preliminary assessments indicated that air defense forces had downed or suppressed 110 enemy drones across northern, southern, and eastern regions of Ukraine. Additionally, three strike drones were reported to have successfully hit three different locations, with debris from the intercepted drones falling in six areas.
The attack was ongoing as several Russian drones remained active in Ukrainian airspace, highlighting the persistent threat posed by aerial assaults in the region.
