Ukraine to Establish Pantheon of Prominent Figures Amid National Memory Initiatives

On April 22, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the initiation of a project aimed at creating a Pantheon of distinguished Ukrainians. This initiative seeks to honor historical figures deemed essential for shaping Ukrainian national identity and statehood.

Zelensky shared details of the project via Telegram following a meeting focused on strategic aspects of state memory policy and the commemoration of national heroes. He emphasized the importance of a comprehensive approach to memorializing various stages of Ukraine’s history.

“This also involves a policy of heroes in Ukraine, a dignified memorialization of different periods in our history, and a full restoration of our historical memory. We must create a special place for the value consolidation of the Ukrainian people, which will undoubtedly hold significance for future generations and preserve the memory of those who contributed to our culture and state,”

the President stated.

Zelensky noted that the scope of the tasks ahead is considerable, requiring the involvement of various state institutions, civil society, and diplomatic engagement with numerous international partners.

He also expressed gratitude to several officials, including Ruslan Stefanchuk, the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Kyrylo Budanov, Head of the President’s Office, and Iryna Vereshchuk, Deputy Head of the Office, along with the team already engaged in this endeavor.

“We have outlined our next steps. Thank you to everyone who will assist in this work! Glory to Ukraine,”

Zelensky added.
