The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has signed a decree implementing sanctions against ten Russian mobile operators and internet providers, as announced on the presidential website.
The sanctions target companies that facilitate secure communication channels for the Russian occupying authorities and provide internet access in temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. Included in the sanctions are satellite operators and enterprises that broadcast Russian television channels.
Among the companies affected are “Luhansk Communications” and “Mobile Communication Systems,” which are utilized by Russia to disseminate propaganda. Other sanctioned entities include the federal operator “Amtel-Connection” and “Cosmic Connection,” both of which provide secure channels for military operations against Ukraine.
Ukraine plans to share information about these companies with international partners and will address the synchronization of sanctions across various jurisdictions.
Vladyslav Vasyuk, an advisor to the President on sanctions policy, emphasized that any operations in temporarily occupied territories are illegal. He stated that companies knowingly servicing the occupying authorities become toxic for international business and the financial system. Consequently, Ukraine is enforcing sanctions to obstruct their operations not only in occupied regions but also outside of Russia.
Ukraine has enacted sanctions against Russian telecommunications firms to disrupt their operations in occupied territories and internationally. The move aims to hinder companies that support the Russian military and propaganda efforts.
