U.S. Vice President Dismisses Reports of Uranium Transfer to Iran

U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance clarified on Tuesday that transferring enriched uranium from Russia to Iran is not part of the United States’ current plans. Speaking at a press briefing at the White House, Vance addressed rumors circulating in the media regarding this potential arrangement.

Vance stated, “I have seen some reports about this. I don’t know where they originated.” He emphasized that such a move has never been in the plans of the U.S. government. Furthermore, he suggested that any agreement involving uranium transfer would likely face resistance from both Washington and Tehran.

The Vice President noted, “This is not currently in the plans of the U.S. government. The Iranians have not raised this issue. I believe the Iranians would not be particularly pleased about this, and I know the President is not particularly pleased about it either.” He also refrained from committing to any specific topics in ongoing negotiations.

On May 9, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed readiness to accept Iranian uranium. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi mentioned that this Russian proposal could be discussed in future negotiations with the U.S.

Media leaks suggest that Iran is considering transferring 400 kilograms of enriched uranium to Russia. However, the White House views this new proposal from Iran as insufficient for reaching a final agreement.

Additionally, President Donald Trump announced on May 18 that he had postponed planned military strikes against Iran that were set for the following Tuesday.

U.S. Vice President Jay D. Vance has dismissed rumors about a potential uranium transfer from Russia to Iran, asserting it is not part of U.S. plans. He indicated that any such agreement would likely face opposition from both nations and emphasized the need for further negotiations.
