The U.S. State Department has announced plans to issue a limited series of passports featuring an image of former President Donald Trump on the inside cover. This initiative, reported by Politico on April 28, is part of the celebrations for the upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence.
According to State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott, the design will showcase Trump’s portrait overlaid on the Declaration of Independence, with his signature embossed in gold. Additionally, one page will depict the signing of the Declaration by the Founding Fathers.
The limited edition passports will be available at the Washington passport agency to U.S. citizens applying for new documents. There will be no extra charge for these special passports, which will be issued while supplies last.
The release is scheduled for July and is part of the Trump administration’s America250 initiative, which also includes events such as a UFC match at the White House and a Grand Prix race through the streets of Washington.
Since the beginning of his second term, Trump has had his image and signature associated with various federal projects and buildings. His name has been attached to a planned class of military ships, a visa program for wealthy foreigners, a government prescription drug website, and federal children’s savings accounts.
In December 2025, the board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts added Trump’s name to the institution’s title. The name was also added to the U.S. Institute of Peace in Washington, shortly after the Trump administration effectively closed the organization.
In March, a federal arts commission, composed of Trump appointees, approved the release of a commemorative gold coin featuring his likeness. This coin will be part of a series that the U.S. Mint plans to issue in celebration of the country’s 250th anniversary. Soon, Trump’s signature will also appear on American paper currency, marking the first time in history that a sitting president’s signature will be printed on banknotes.
