U.S. Central Command Launches Operation Freedom to Secure Maritime Traffic in Strait of Hormuz

The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the initiation of Operation Freedom, aimed at ensuring the safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz. This operation will commence on May 4 and involves significant military resources.

According to CENTCOM, the operation will be conducted under the directive of President Donald Trump, focusing on the protection of trade ships seeking to navigate this critical international trade corridor.

The military support for Operation Freedom will include guided-missile destroyers, over 100 aircraft from both land and sea bases, multi-role unmanned aerial platforms, and a deployment of 15,000 military personnel.

Prior to this announcement, President Trump had outlined the objectives of Operation Freedom, which involves the escorting of vessels from neutral countries through the Strait of Hormuz. This initiative comes amid heightened tensions in the region.

In response, Iranian officials have indicated that any U.S. intervention in the Strait of Hormuz would be viewed as a violation of the ceasefire, signaling potential escalations in regional tensions.
