The plane, a Cessna 421C, took off from Amarillo about two hours before the accident, heading towards New Braunfels Airport. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion prior to the crash, describing it as intense enough to feel like their own homes were on fire.
Authorities confirmed that the pilot and four passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. While the names of the victims have not been released, members of a pickleball club in Amarillo indicated that those on board were part of their group, en route to a tournament.
