Tragic Missile Strike in Kyiv Claims 24 Lives, Including Three Children

As of 6 AM on May 15, 2026, authorities have confirmed that a missile strike in the Darniytskyi district of Kyiv resulted in 24 fatalities, including three children. This incident occurred on May 14 when a Russian ballistic missile struck a residential building.

Emergency services, led by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (DSNS), concluded their search and rescue operations after more than 28 hours. Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko announced the transition to recovery efforts shortly after 8:22 AM.

Pavlo Petrov, a spokesperson for the DSNS, stated that no additional victims were found under the rubble. Among the deceased are a 12-year-old girl and two teenagers aged 15 and 17, as reported by Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko.

Of the over 50 individuals injured during the attack, 24 remain hospitalized. Rescue teams have removed more than 3,000 cubic meters of debris from the site, continuing their efforts throughout the night.

In the aftermath, residents have been leaving flowers and toys at the site to honor the victims. One local, Tetyana, brought a bouquet of red roses in memory of her friend who lived in the destroyed building. “My friend was found by rescuers at 7 PM yesterday. Her husband also perished in the attack. They are now angels in heaven,” she shared.

Today, Kyiv observes a day of mourning for those lost in the missile strike. In an evening address on May 14, President Volodymyr Zelensky indicated that the missile used in the attack was likely the Kh-101 cruise missile, which has been produced this year.

On the night of May 14, Russian forces launched a combined attack on Kyiv and its surrounding areas using missiles and drones. The strike affected multiple districts, including Shevchenkivskyi, Pecherskyi, and Dniprovskyi, damaging residential buildings, commercial properties, and vehicles.

In the Kyiv region, the assault also resulted in injuries and fires, causing damage to homes and vehicles in the Obukhiv, Brovary, Fastiv, Boryspil, and Bilotserkiv districts.

A missile strike in Kyiv's Darniytskyi district has left 24 people dead, including three children. The attack, attributed to Russian forces, has prompted a day of mourning as recovery operations continue.
