Sweden Allocates $108 Million for U.S. Military Equipment for Ukraine

The Swedish government has announced a funding package of $108 million aimed at procuring American military equipment for the Ukrainian Armed Forces under the PURL program. This decision was confirmed by the country’s Ministry of Defense.

Officials noted that this financial support is part of a previously declared aid initiative for Ukraine. Defense Minister Paul Jonsson emphasized that the PURL program enables Ukraine to quickly access essential U.S. defense equipment, including advanced air defense systems and ammunition.

“This is crucial for Ukraine to defend itself against further Russian attacks. Sweden’s support is long-term, comprehensive, and based on Ukraine’s needs,” he stated.

This marks the fourth time Stockholm has allocated funds through the PURL initiative. With this latest contribution, Sweden’s total support via this mechanism has reached $543 million.

Additionally, on June 18, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that Berlin would provide $400 million for the purchase of U.S. military equipment and ammunition for Ukraine, also under the PURL and Jumpstart programs.

Sweden has committed $108 million to procure U.S. military equipment for Ukraine, reinforcing its ongoing support amid the conflict. This funding is part of a larger aid package aimed at bolstering Ukraine's defense capabilities.
