A suicide bomber detonated an explosive device near a railway station in Quetta, Pakistan, resulting in the deaths of at least 23 individuals and injuring 71 others. The attack occurred as a train was passing through the area.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a militant group advocating for independence from the Pakistani central government, claimed responsibility for the incident. This group has a history of conducting attacks in the region.
“Such cowardly acts of terrorism cannot shake the resolve of the people of Pakistan,” stated Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on social media platform X.
Quetta is located in Balochistan province, an area rich in oil and minerals, which has been the target of sporadic violence from various militant factions over the years. The BLA has previously claimed responsibility for multiple suicide bombings and armed assaults in Balochistan, with Pakistani military reports indicating that these attacks have resulted in at least 33 fatalities in February alone.
A recent suicide bombing in Quetta has resulted in significant casualties, with the Baloch Liberation Army claiming responsibility. The attack underscores the ongoing violence in Balochistan, a region facing persistent militant threats.
