The Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, is set to travel to Moscow on May 9, but his delegation will take a longer route through several countries due to flight restrictions imposed by neighboring states.
Sources from the Slovak Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed to the Marker portal that Fico’s flight will avoid the airspace of Estonia, as well as the Baltic nations and Poland, which have denied passage. Instead, the Slovak delegation will navigate through the Czech Republic, Germany, Sweden, and Finland.
While Fico is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he will not participate in the military parade associated with the event. This visit comes at a time when Fico has expressed a desire for amicable relations with Ukraine, despite existing differences with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Officials from the Czech Republic, Germany, Sweden, and Finland have reportedly raised no objections to the flight, allowing the Slovak aircraft to traverse their airspace without issue.
