A woman is in critical condition following a shark attack at Coogee Beach in Sydney’s eastern suburbs on Saturday, June 13. The incident occurred approximately 30 meters from the shore while she was swimming.

Witnesses and beach lifeguards assisted in bringing the injured woman to safety. She sustained severe injuries to her leg and arm, prompting immediate medical attention.

Emergency services, including paramedics and a rescue helicopter from Toll, responded swiftly to the scene. Mike Corlis from New South Wales Ambulance reported that the 35-year-old woman was in serious condition.

“She has quite significant injuries to her left calf and arms. Blood products were administered at the scene. She was transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital in a serious or critical state. Her injuries will require extensive surgical intervention,”

Corlis stated.

Several beachgoers reported sighting a shark in the area shortly before the attack. In response, local authorities closed Coogee Beach and other nearby beaches under Randwick Council as a precautionary measure.

An investigation is currently underway, and the beach closures are expected to remain in effect until officials determine that it is safe to reopen the area.
