In the early hours of May 14, Russian military forces targeted Kyiv and several regions of Ukraine with various types of drones, as well as cruise and ballistic missiles, resulting in casualties.
Starting the evening of May 13, the Ukrainian Air Force reported movements of strike drones launched from multiple directions towards Ukraine. Subsequently, the threats expanded to include ballistic and cruise missiles fired from Russian strategic aviation aircraft.
Explosions were reported overnight and into the morning in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, and Poltava regions. By 8 a.m., the Air Force confirmed that Russia had deployed 675 drones and 56 missiles of different types against Ukraine. Ukrainian air defense systems successfully intercepted 652 drones, 29 Kh-101 missiles, and 12 Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles.
Kyiv emerged as a primary target during the assault. In the city, significant damage was recorded in the Darnytskyi, Obolonskyi, and Dniprovskyi districts. In Darnytskyi, a residential building partially collapsed due to the strike, leading to the recovery of four bodies from the debris. Rescue operations are ongoing as there are concerns that more individuals may still be trapped.
Additionally, a multi-story building in Darnytskyi sustained facade damage, and vehicles in the vicinity caught fire.
As a result of the attacks in Kyiv, over 40 individuals sustained injuries.
In the Kyiv region, destruction was reported in five districts. By 8 a.m., seven injuries had been confirmed, including a child, according to Mykola Kalashnyk, head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, and the State Emergency Service.
In the Boryspil district, five residents were injured, including a 27-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman who were hospitalized. Damage and fires were also reported in the Obukhiv, Brovary, Fastiv, Boryspil, and Bila Tserkva districts, affecting private homes, apartments, agricultural structures, and vehicles. Firefighters managed to extinguish fires within residential areas, as reported by the State Emergency Service.
In the village of Shchaslyve in the Boryspil district, three individuals were injured due to a missile strike that damaged several residential buildings from the shockwave and debris. Nearby parked vehicles were destroyed by fire.
One private house was completely burned down; it belonged to the family of a serviceman who had previously died in the conflict, as stated by Mykola Kalashnyk.
In Kharkiv, strikes were recorded in the Shevchenkivskyi district, resulting in 15 injuries. Additionally, on the morning of May 14, a Shahed drone attack targeted the Saltivskyi district, injuring nine people, including two children.
In Odesa, according to the regional prosecutor’s office, Russian forces launched a coordinated attack with strike drones on port and civilian infrastructure. One floor of a residential building was damaged, and two men, aged 33 and 70, were hospitalized.
In Zaporizhzhia, industrial infrastructure was targeted, but preliminary reports indicated no casualties, according to the regional military administration head, Ivan Fedorov.
Due to strikes on energy infrastructure, some consumers in Kyiv and 11 other regions are temporarily without electricity. However, scheduled power outages are not anticipated, as stated by Ukrenergo.
