Russian Drone Strikes Hit Kharkiv, Causing Damage and Injuries

On the evening of June 9, 2023, multiple explosions were reported in Kharkiv, Ukraine, attributed to Russian drone attacks. The city’s mayor, Ihor Terekhov, and the head of the regional military administration, Oleg Synehubov, confirmed the incidents, highlighting the impact on various districts.

Initial reports indicated a drone strike in the Slobidskyi district, with further assessments underway. Subsequently, another strike was confirmed in the city center, specifically in the Kyivskyi district, where a four-story building sustained damage and a fire broke out.

Additional explosions were recorded in the Osnovyanskyi district. Synehubov later reported that four Russian drones had been involved in the attacks on Kharkiv.

In the Kyivskyi district, a residential building was damaged, leading to acute stress reactions in two elderly women, aged 86 and 69. Meanwhile, in the Slobidskyi district, a drone struck an open area, igniting dry grass, although firefighters managed to localize the blaze.

In the Shevchenkivskyi district, debris from a downed drone damaged a car, but no injuries were reported. Later updates from Terekhov indicated another strike by a Shahed drone on a residential building in the Holodnohirskiy district, resulting in damage to the structure and municipal networks, with two individuals sustaining injuries.

The recent drone strikes in Kharkiv highlight the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, with significant damage to infrastructure and injuries reported. Local authorities continue to assess the situation and respond to the aftermath of these attacks.
