Russian Drone Strike Targets Train in Sumy Region

On March 8, a Russian drone strike targeted a train traveling from Kyiv to Sumy, carrying approximately 200 passengers. The attack occurred around 5:30 AM, as reported by the Sumy regional prosecutor’s office.

The drone strike, believed to have been carried out using a ‘Lancet’ drone, damaged the locomotive of the train. Consequently, train services were temporarily halted to replace the damaged locomotive, but passengers were subsequently transported to their final destination without reported injuries.

Ukrzaliznytsia, the state-owned railway company, confirmed that there were no injuries among railway staff or passengers due to the attack. Additionally, there are no planned changes to the train schedule following the incident.

In a separate incident on the same morning, a drone struck a roadway in central Sumy. Initial reports indicated no injuries, a claim later confirmed by the head of the Sumy City Military Administration, Serhiy Kryvosheienko.

The drone attack also resulted in damage to the trolleybus line in the area, causing disruptions to the trolleybus schedule, as noted by the local transport company, KP ‘Electroavtotrans.’
