Remains of Ukrainian Leaders Returned for Reburial in Kyiv

The remains of Andrii and Sofia Melnyk were officially transferred to Ukraine on May 21, crossing the Slovak border. This significant event was reported by a correspondent from Suspilne, highlighting the importance of the couple’s legacy in Ukrainian history.

According to Iryna Vereshchuk, Deputy Head of the President’s Office, the remains of Andrii Melnyk, a colonel in the Ukrainian People’s Army and leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) from 1938 to 1964, will be reinterred at the National Military Memorial Cemetery in Kyiv on May 24.

The exhumation of the Melnyks’ remains took place in Luxembourg on May 19, marking a pivotal moment in honoring their contributions to Ukraine. The couple’s return is seen as a significant gesture of remembrance and respect for their role in the country’s history.

The remains of Andrii and Sofia Melnyk have been returned to Ukraine for reburial, reflecting their historical significance. Their reinterment is scheduled for May 24 at a military cemetery in Kyiv.
