A court in Kyiv is deliberating on the pre-trial detention of two police officers implicated in a shooting incident that resulted in seven fatalities in the Holosiivskyi district. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has classified the case as a terrorist act.
The primary suspect, Mykhailo Drobnytskyi, is facing charges of professional negligence. Prosecutors are requesting a 60-day detention period for him as they argue that he failed to ensure public safety during the incident.
According to prosecutor Serhiy Khodakivskyi, witness testimonies indicate that the officers did not take necessary actions to protect bystanders or assist those in need during the shooting. Evidence presented includes video footage from witnesses and body cameras worn by the police.
Khodakivskyi expressed concerns that if the court opts for a measure other than detention, Drobnytskyi might evade justice, tamper with evidence, or influence witnesses. He stated,
“Drobnytskyi, if released, could destroy, hide, or alter documents crucial for establishing the facts of the case, including video materials from police vehicle cameras.”
