Ukrainian defender Ilya Zabarnyi has achieved his first Ligue 1 championship title with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) following a 2-0 victory over Lens in a rescheduled match. This win solidified PSG’s position at the top of the league, ensuring they maintain a six-point lead over their nearest rival.
Zabarnyi played the entire match, contributing significantly to the team’s defensive efforts. The match was originally postponed to accommodate PSG’s prior Champions League quarter-final against Liverpool, which they won.
During the match against Lens, Zabarnyi recorded nine interceptions, cleared the ball from his penalty area six times, and blocked four shots. His performance included winning seven duels against opponents and completing 86 out of 88 passes, achieving a remarkable accuracy rate of 98%.
The scoring began in the 29th minute with a goal from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who converted a free kick into the lower left corner of the net. The second goal was scored by Ibrahim Mbaye in stoppage time, assisted by Désiré Doué.
This victory marked PSG’s 14th Ligue 1 title and their fifth consecutive championship. For Zabarnyi, who joined PSG from Bournemouth in August 2025, this title represents a significant milestone in his career, complementing his earlier success with the French Super Cup.
In the current 2025/26 season, Zabarnyi has participated in 36 matches across all competitions, scoring once. Notably, he was part of a central defensive partnership that kept clean sheets in 19 of those matches.
Looking ahead, PSG is set to compete for their second consecutive Champions League title against Arsenal, following their 5-0 victory over Inter in last year’s final. The upcoming final for the 2025/26 season is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, at 19:00 Kyiv time.
