Fatal Car Crash in Kyiv Claims Four Lives

A tragic car accident in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district resulted in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to three others. The incident occurred on June 5, 2026, around 5:30 PM at the intersection of Vadym Hetman and Ushynskyi streets.

According to Kyiv police, a Mercedes vehicle was traveling at high speed when the driver lost control, veering into a pedestrian area. Emergency services responded promptly to the scene.

“Preliminary reports indicate that the driver was speeding and failed to maintain control of the vehicle, resulting in the crash into a pedestrian zone. Emergency services are currently operating at the site,” stated National Police spokesperson Yuliya Hirdvylis.

The collision claimed the lives of two men, a woman, and a 12-year-old boy. Three additional individuals sustained injuries, including the driver, who was trapped in the wreckage.

Rescue teams utilized specialized equipment to extricate the 49-year-old driver, who is now in critical condition in a hospital’s intensive care unit. Authorities revealed that the driver had a history of traffic violations, including multiple instances of speeding and involvement in four prior accidents, two of which occurred this year.

In response to the incident, the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office has initiated a preliminary investigation under Article 286, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This article carries a potential penalty of up to ten years in prison for those found culpable in fatal traffic accidents.
