On the evening of June 9, three explosions were reported on a major gas pipeline in the Republic of Dagestan, Russia. Preliminary reports indicate that there were no casualties.
The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry in Dagestan confirmed that they received notifications of a gas pipeline explosion in the city of Kizilyurt at approximately 7:45 PM local time, which was followed by a fire.
“According to initial information, there was a rupture on a gas pipeline with a diameter of 1200 mm,” the ministry stated.
In response to the incident, 37 firefighters and 10 units of equipment were deployed to extinguish the blaze. Authorities have not reported any injuries.
According to Said Mamatkhanov, the mayor of Kizilyurt, over 140 people were evacuated from the vicinity of the explosions. Media outlets have also released footage showing flames reaching heights of 15 meters.
By 10:00 PM, TASS, citing the Dagestani Emergency Situations Ministry, reported that the “flame burning” at the explosion site had been extinguished.
