Explosion at Bucharest Power Plant Triggers Major Fire

Late on April 20, an explosion at the CET Vest power plant in Bucharest led to a significant fire, prompting emergency response efforts.

According to emergency services, the fire originated from two electrical transformers and subsequently spread to a third. Firefighters utilized water and foam to combat the flames, which posed a risk of spreading to nearby structures.

Raed Arafat, head of the emergency service, reported that approximately 30 tons of fuel oil ignited during the incident.

Firefighters successfully contained the blaze and halted its spread. They continued to work on cooling the area throughout the night. By morning, five fire engines remained on-site to monitor and cool down the affected zone.

No injuries have been reported. Authorities did not activate the public alert system, as the facility is situated far from residential areas, and the smoke did not pose a critical threat.

The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation.
