On April 26, train services were suspended in Sevastopol, a city under Russian occupation, following a drone attack. Reports indicate that the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have intercepted approximately fifty drones in the vicinity of Crimea and the Black Sea.
As a result of the attack, suburban trains will only operate to the station at Inkerman-1, where passengers will be transported by bus to the main railway station in Sevastopol. The official reason given for the suspension of train services was damage to the contact network caused by falling drones.
Additionally, passengers traveling on the train from Saint Petersburg to Sevastopol will have bus services arranged from Inkerman to the city’s railway station. The arrival of the Moscow to Sevastopol train is expected to be delayed by one hour.
Ukrainian authorities have not commented on the incident, and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty has noted that it cannot verify these claims through independent sources. Since 2022, Crimea has experienced near-daily drone and missile attacks, with the Russian Ministry of Defense often refraining from confirming strikes on military targets, even when such information is verifiable.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has acknowledged some of these attacks, stating that Ukrainian defense forces are systematically implementing measures aimed at reducing the combat potential of Russian occupying forces and compelling Russia to cease its armed aggression against Ukraine.
The suspension of train services in Sevastopol follows a reported drone attack, with Russian authorities claiming to have intercepted multiple drones. This incident underscores the ongoing conflict dynamics in Crimea, where drone and missile strikes have become a frequent occurrence since 2022.
