The Central Election Commission of Ukraine has officially recognized Denis Pyatygorets as the newly elected Member of Parliament representing the European Solidarity party, following the death of Stepan Kubiv. Kubiv passed away on May 18 at the age of 65, prompting the commission to act on the vacancy created by his demise.
Upon receiving the formal notification from the Verkhovna Rada regarding Kubiv’s early termination of duties, the commission proceeded to review the electoral list. Pyatygorets, who was next in line on the party’s candidate list at position 28, has now been confirmed as the successor.
“To register as a Member of Parliament, Denis Pyatygorets must submit the required documents to the Commission no later than the 20th day following this announcement. The Commission is then obligated to make a decision within five days of receiving these documents,” the commission stated.
Denis Pyatygorets was born on December 28, 1979, in Zaporizhzhia. He holds degrees from the Zaporizhzhia Institute of State and Municipal Management and the Zaporizhzhia National Technical University. Before entering politics, he worked as a journalist for local television stations.
His political career began in 2010 when he was elected to the Zaporizhzhia City Council as a member of the Party of Regions. According to the CHESNO movement, he was noted for having one of the highest absenteeism rates during council sessions between 2012 and 2013.
From 2012 to 2019, Pyatygorets served as an assistant to MP Stepan Ivakhiv and led Ivakhiv’s charitable organization, the “Patriots of Volyn,” from 2016 to 2018. He also held the position of Deputy Head of the Volyn Regional State Administration from 2017 to 2019.
Although he ran for a seat in the Verkhovna Rada in 2019 under the European Solidarity party, he did not secure a position at that time. In 2020, it was reported by the CHESNO movement that Ivakhiv transferred ownership of the company “Sonris LTD” to Pyatygorets. From 2021 to 2022, he led the company “Diverte,” which was linked to Ivakhiv’s sphere of influence.
Stepan Kubiv, who passed away unexpectedly on May 18, was not only a Member of Parliament but also a former head of the National Bank of Ukraine and held various governmental roles throughout his career.
Denis Pyatygorets has been elected as a Member of Parliament for the European Solidarity party following the death of Stepan Kubiv. This transition highlights the procedural steps taken by the Central Election Commission in filling parliamentary vacancies.
