A 15-year-old has been remanded in custody following a shooting incident at a school in Chop, located in Ukraine’s Zakarpattia region. The court has ordered that the teenager be held without the possibility of bail for a period of 60 days.
The decision was made by a judge at the Uzhhorod City District Court in response to a request from a juvenile prosecutor. The charges against the youth include attempted murder of two or more individuals, a serious criminal offense under Ukrainian law.
According to investigators, the teenager ordered a noise pistol, lead pellets, and blank cartridges online between February and March of this year. He subsequently modified the weapon and ammunition, making them capable of causing lethal harm.
On April 16, around 9:30 AM, the suspect brought the modified firearm to school and fired several shots at his classmates, injuring one student in the shoulder. After the shooting, he fled the scene but was apprehended shortly afterward, with the weapon recovered by law enforcement.
Investigations are ongoing, with authorities exploring all possible motives behind the teenager’s actions. The police had initially reported the incident, stating that shots were fired at a school in the Uzhhorod district, resulting in injuries to a student.
Subsequent to the shooting, police released footage from body cameras of officers who detained the minor at the school.
