US Vice President to Prioritize Nuclear Talks and Ceasefire in Lebanon During Switzerland Negotiations

During upcoming negotiations in Switzerland, US Vice President Jay D. Vance will focus on establishing a dialogue framework, advancing discussions on Iran’s nuclear program, and seeking a ceasefire in Lebanon.

Vance made these remarks before his departure, expressing hope for progress on the handling of Iranian nuclear materials. He indicated that both senior political leadership and technical experts would be involved in the discussions.

“The process will be led by senior political leadership, while the technical team will remain on-site,” Vance explained.

Although he will only be in Switzerland for one or two days, Vance aims to achieve significant advancements regarding the oversight of Iran’s nuclear materials during this time.

Another critical issue for the US is achieving a ceasefire in Lebanon, which has recently experienced renewed rocket attacks from Israel. Vance emphasized that the current escalation is a situation that the United States will need to manage continuously.

“These are two major topics that we will focus on. I am confident that the Iranian side will also have issues they wish to discuss,” Vance concluded.

Previously, the White House announced that Vance had postponed his trip to Switzerland for a new round of talks concerning Iran’s nuclear program.

Before this, Vance defended the framework agreement with Iran during a press briefing at the White House, despite criticism from some members of Congress.

Vance has also noted that Washington is close to finalizing an agreement that would comprehensively address Iran’s nuclear program, estimating the chances of reaching this agreement by the end of the year as high.

He stated that the primary goal of the US is to achieve long-term nuclear agreements. However, he acknowledged that Washington’s interests regarding Iran may not fully align with those of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

US Vice President Jay D. Vance is set to prioritize discussions on Iran's nuclear program and a ceasefire in Lebanon during negotiations in Switzerland. His remarks highlight the complex interplay of diplomatic efforts amid regional tensions.
