Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha is set to travel to Brussels for discussions with European Union and NATO officials, focusing on the return of deported Ukrainian children.
The visit will commence on May 11, featuring a speech at the EU Foreign Affairs Council. Key topics will include increased pressure on Russia, support for Ukraine, and expediting the country’s EU accession process, particularly the opening of negotiation clusters.
During the meeting, several bilateral agreements with European partners are expected to be signed.
In the afternoon, Sybiha will visit NATO headquarters for talks with Secretary General Mark Rutte. Discussions will center on enhancing Ukraine’s defense capabilities, protecting against Russian threats, and advancing the peace process.
A significant aspect of the trip will be participation in a session of the International Coalition for the Return of Ukrainian Children, organized by Ukraine in collaboration with the EU and Canada.
Sybiha will be joined by Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, and EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson. The meeting aims to develop practical mechanisms for locating the children, their rehabilitation, and increasing legal pressure on Russia.
Additionally, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry recently highlighted significant contradictions in Kremlin statements. Specifically, Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian leader, issued another ultimatum for continuing negotiations, but the ministry noted a critical caveat in his remarks that exposed Moscow’s true intentions regarding peace with Ukraine.
Furthermore, the ministry continues to document war crimes committed by occupying forces in southern Ukraine. The situation in the left bank of Kherson remains critical, with Russia creating a humanitarian disaster in Oleshky and Holaya Prystan, where residents are trapped without electricity and food amid ongoing drone attacks.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha's upcoming visit to Brussels will address key issues including the return of deported children and strengthening Ukraine's defense against Russian aggression. The discussions will also focus on Ukraine's EU accession process and bilateral agreements with European partners.
