U.S. Invites Putin to G20 Summit in Miami, No Official Invitation Sent Yet

The United States plans to invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to the upcoming G20 summit scheduled for December at Trump National Doral in Miami. This information comes from a statement by the U.S. State Department, indicating that President Donald Trump is open to Russia’s participation to ensure a successful and productive meeting.

However, reports from the Wall Street Journal clarify that no formal invitations have been dispatched as of now. An administration official mentioned that while Russia is a member of the G20 and will be invited to both the ministerial meetings and the leaders’ summit, official invitations have yet to be sent.

During a press briefing in the Oval Office at 1:00 AM Kyiv time on April 24, Trump reiterated that he has not formally invited Putin but suggested that his attendance could be beneficial. “I have not invited Putin to the G20 summit, but if he came, it would probably be very helpful,” Trump stated.

Earlier on April 23, Russian officials claimed that Putin had been invited to the summit in Miami, but they did not provide a clear response regarding his potential participation. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov noted that Russia has attended all summits at the appropriate level and that a decision on their participation format would be made closer to the event.

Additionally, the Russian Foreign Ministry had previously indicated that Russia was invited to participate at the highest level, with Deputy Minister Alexander Pankin confirming this while also stating that a final decision would be reached as the date approaches.

Trump’s recent comments about Putin, Europe, and NATO have drawn attention, particularly in the context of ongoing tensions with Iran. He expressed that Putin fears the U.S. and American military capabilities, while suggesting that the Russian leader does not regard NATO as a significant threat, labeling the alliance a ‘paper tiger.’

The U.S. intends to invite Vladimir Putin to the G20 summit in Miami, although no official invitation has been sent yet. President Trump has expressed openness to Russia's participation, while Kremlin officials have indicated they are awaiting further details.
