Trump’s Tense Phone Call with Netanyahu Highlights U.S.-Israel Relations

In a recent phone conversation, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed frustration towards Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, describing him as “crazy” and accusing him of ingratitude. The call, which took place amid escalating tensions in Lebanon, underscores the complexities of U.S.-Israel relations.

Trump’s anger stemmed from Israel’s military actions in Lebanon, which he believed could jeopardize ongoing negotiations with Iran. During the conversation, Trump warned Netanyahu that the bombings in Beirut would further isolate Israel on the international stage.

“You are crazy. You would be in prison if it weren’t for me. I’m saving you. Everyone hates you right now. Everyone hates Israel because of this,”

Trump reportedly told Netanyahu, according to an American official. Another source indicated that Trump raised his voice, questioning, “What the hell are you doing?”

In the call, Trump reminded Netanyahu of his support during Netanyahu’s corruption trial, suggesting that this backing had helped him avoid imprisonment. The conversation was described as a “blasting” session, with Netanyahu responding, “Okay, okay, just make sure everything is taken care of.”

Initially, Israel had planned to conduct airstrikes in Beirut, but Trump intervened to prevent this action. He expressed particular concern over the civilian casualties in Lebanon, opposing the Israeli military’s strategy of targeting entire buildings to eliminate a single Hezbollah commander.

Following the conversation, Israeli officials confirmed that plans for strikes in Beirut had been halted. However, Netanyahu issued a statement asserting that if Hezbollah did not cease its attacks, Israel would retaliate against Beirut. “Our position remains unchanged,” he stated.

Netanyahu also reaffirmed that ground operations in southern Lebanon would continue as planned, indicating a commitment to military actions despite the diplomatic tensions.

A recent phone call between President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu revealed significant tensions regarding Israel's military actions in Lebanon. Trump's criticisms and concerns about international backlash highlight the delicate nature of U.S.-Israel relations amid ongoing regional conflicts.
