Romanian President Visits Drone Strike Victims in Galați

The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, visited victims affected by a Russian drone strike on a residential building in Galați. During his visit, he provided new details regarding the incident.

According to President Dan, the drone that crashed in Galați was part of a larger group of 43 Russian drones launched from the east. These drones crossed into Ukrainian airspace, flying approximately 20 to 30 kilometers north of the Danube River.

“As the drones traversed Ukrainian territory, some were intercepted. However, one drone, likely hit over the Ukrainian city of Reni, altered its trajectory and headed towards Galați in Romania,” Dan explained.

When asked whether the drone’s course change was accidental or intentional, he clarified that the drone had sustained kinetic damage, which caused it to deviate from its original path and ultimately crash.

On the subject of Romania’s requests to NATO for drone countermeasures, Dan described the situation as a “complex technical issue.”

“Depending on the equipment, if you request to intercept a drone with an aircraft, you must ensure that the missile’s trajectory does not reach residential areas and cause significant damage, nor should it fire into Ukrainian territory from Romanian soil. There are many conditions to consider,” he noted.

Presidential advisor Dmytro Lytvyn informed reporters that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had already spoken with his Romanian counterpart, and no further comments were necessary.

“I just spoke with the President of Romania. A Russian drone struck a residential building in Romania, injuring people. We agreed with Nicușor that Ukraine will support Romania in this situation,” Zelensky stated.

The Ukrainian leader added that teams from both countries are working to enhance air defense.

“By supporting each other now, we strengthen our joint positions,” he remarked.

It is important to note that on the night of May 29, during another wave of attacks from the aggressor nation on Ukraine, one of the hostile drones entered Romanian territory and crashed into the roof of a multi-story building in Galați.

The impact caused a fire in an apartment on the tenth floor. Two individuals sustained injuries and received medical assistance on site.

Romanian President Nicușor Dan provided updates on the recent drone strike in Galați that injured two residents. The incident highlights ongoing security concerns and cooperation between Romania and Ukraine amid the conflict.
