Poland’s Prime Minister Awaits Zelensky at Gdansk Conference Amid Tensions

Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk has indicated that he will welcome Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to Gdansk for the International Conference on Ukraine’s Reconstruction, scheduled for June 25-26. This comes despite ongoing tensions between the two countries.

Tusk emphasized Zelensky’s role as a co-organizer of the event, stating that Poland will be glad to host all attendees, including businesses and companies. He remarked, “We will certainly welcome those who come to Gdansk; it is in the interest of both Ukraine and Poland.”

The Prime Minister expressed his desire for the conference to be successful, noting that discussions will focus on Poland’s interests in Ukraine’s recovery. He added, “We will see how it goes, but so far, I have not received any signals that the Ukrainian side wishes to disregard this in their plans.”

Additionally, Tusk addressed a recent incident where Zelensky’s flight departed to Britain from Moldova rather than Poland, a shift that raised eyebrows amid the diplomatic crisis. Tusk stated, “President Zelensky is utilizing different options than Rzeszów, and I will not dictate to him where or how he should fly. Rzeszów is not closed.” He also reiterated that Poland’s support for Ukraine encompasses more than just military aid.

Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that he will welcome Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to an upcoming conference in Gdansk, despite recent diplomatic tensions. Tusk highlighted the importance of the event for both nations and addressed concerns regarding Zelensky's travel choices.
