Iran to Reduce Oil Production Amid US Naval Blockade in Hormuz Strait

Iran has announced plans to cut its oil production in response to a US naval blockade in the Hormuz Strait, which has hindered its ability to trade. The Iranian government is reportedly prepared for this scenario, having anticipated the challenges posed by the blockade.

According to sources, Tehran is proactively reducing oil output to avoid exceeding its production capacity rather than waiting for storage tanks to fill up completely. This strategic move reflects years of experience in managing oil production under various adverse conditions.

Engineers in Iran have developed techniques to halt oil wells without causing significant damage, enabling them to quickly restart production after interruptions caused by long-standing sanctions and operational setbacks.

“We have enough experience and knowledge. We are not worried,” stated Hamid Hosseini, a representative of the Iranian Association of Oil, Gas, and Petrochemical Exporters.

Bloomberg reports that these methods have been refined over the years, particularly during Donald Trump’s first term, when the US withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal in 2018 and imposed sanctions that led to a sharp decline in Iranian oil production.

Despite these challenges, Iran has managed to increase its oil output in subsequent years, demonstrating resilience in the face of restrictions. However, Iranian officials acknowledge that their efforts to maintain production levels may only be sustainable for a limited time. The key question remains whether they can endure longer than the US amid ongoing economic pressures.

Iran is set to reduce its oil production due to a US naval blockade, leveraging its experience from past sanctions. While the country has adapted its strategies, officials recognize the limitations of sustaining production levels over time.
