Armenian citizens within the country are casting their votes until 20:00 local time, while no voting is taking place abroad. The Central Electoral Commission of Armenia is set to begin releasing voter turnout data starting at noon, with updates occurring every three hours, albeit with some delays.
The initial voting results are expected to be reported around 23:00 local time from smaller and remote polling stations, though these early figures will not provide a comprehensive view of the overall voting landscape.
A clearer picture of the parliamentary distribution may emerge following the results from major cities, particularly Yerevan, which is home to approximately one-third of the electorate. Local observers estimate that these results could be available around 02:00-03:00 in the morning.
The online vote tally is anticipated to conclude by Monday morning. Armenia’s parliamentary elections utilize a proportional representation system, where votes are cast solely for party lists. Sixteen parties and two political blocs are competing for seats in the new National Assembly.
The electoral threshold is set at 4% for parties and 8% for electoral blocs. During the counting process, only valid ballots will be considered, meaning invalid votes will not affect the percentage distribution among the candidates.
According to Bloomberg, these elections are being viewed as pivotal for Armenia’s future foreign policy direction. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, who has been in power since 2018, advocates for strengthening ties with the European Union and the United States while gradually reducing the country’s reliance on Russia.
Pashinyan’s party, the Civil Contract, is in competition with the Strong Armenia bloc led by businessman Samvel Karapetyan and the Armenian Alliance of former president Robert Kocharian.
Armenian citizens are participating in parliamentary elections that may significantly influence the country's foreign policy direction. The electoral process, featuring multiple parties and blocs, is being closely monitored as results begin to emerge.
