Ukraine Avoids Electricity Restrictions on April 19, Urges Smart Consumption

On Sunday, April 19, Ukraine will not implement any restrictions on electricity consumption, according to energy officials. However, they are advising residents to use high-powered appliances during daytime hours.

Despite the absence of scheduled outages, experts are urging the public to practice energy conservation. They recommend that the use of heavy electrical devices be concentrated between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

Additionally, citizens are encouraged to limit the operation of these appliances during peak demand hours, specifically from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

Earlier this month, Ukraine reinstated consumption limitation schedules due to a power supply deficit in the energy system, which has been exacerbated by the effects of extensive Russian missile strikes. The state energy company, Ukrenergo, has cited these attacks as a primary factor in the current challenges.

Former head of Ukrenergo, Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, pointed out that beyond the attacks and weather conditions, administrative factors have also contributed to the situation. He noted that price caps on the market have been set too low, leading to economic unfeasibility and restrictions on imports, which results in a loss of approximately 800 MW of available generation capacity.

Experts have warned that artificially suppressed prices increase risks to the stable operation of the energy system, as this limits the ability to secure necessary imports from Europe during peak hours.

Ukraine will not impose electricity consumption restrictions on April 19 but urges residents to use power wisely during specific hours. The energy situation remains challenging due to previous missile strikes and economic factors affecting generation capacity.
