Recent leaks have surfaced regarding Apple’s anticipated foldable smartphone, tentatively named the iPhone Ultra. The device is expected to feature a vertical hinge, allowing it to open like a book and transform into a compact tablet.
When folded, the iPhone Ultra presents unusual proportions, resembling a passport—shorter yet wider than traditional models. This design choice raises questions about its practicality and user experience.

Dimensions:
- Height: 117.71 mm
- Width (when folded): 84.27 mm
- Thickness: 5.24 mm when open; 11.02 mm when closed
The camera module is reportedly one of the largest in Apple’s history, causing the device to sit unevenly on flat surfaces due to its pronounced bump.

In terms of ergonomics, analysts suggest that Apple aims for users to primarily utilize the device in its open state. The screen’s aspect ratio in this mode is similar to that of an iPad, which is intended to facilitate easier app adaptation for developers. However, using the phone in its folded state may prove cumbersome, given its significant thickness—exceeding 16 mm near the camera—and its unique width.
It is anticipated that the speakers will be positioned diagonally in opposite corners, with volume buttons located on the top edge of the device.

As for pricing, the iPhone Ultra is expected to be the most expensive smartphone in Apple’s lineup, with estimates suggesting a cost exceeding $2,000. This price point surpasses that of entry-level MacBook Pro models equipped with M5 chips.
The official unveiling of the iPhone Ultra may coincide with the launch of the iPhone 18 series in late 2026. However, some insiders speculate that a separate announcement for the Ultra could occur as early as this fall.
As is customary, Apple has not commented on these leaks ahead of any official product announcements.
Apple's upcoming foldable smartphone, the iPhone Ultra, is generating interest due to its unique design and high price point. Expected to launch alongside the iPhone 18 series, the device's practicality and user experience remain subjects of discussion.
