Apple’s iPhone Ultra: Key Features and Upcoming Launch Insights

Recent leaks have unveiled detailed images and schematics of Apple’s forthcoming foldable smartphone, tentatively named the iPhone Ultra. This information surfaced just hours before the annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026, where the company is expected to make significant announcements.

The leaked materials indicate several notable changes in Apple’s approach to its first foldable device, which is positioned to potentially replace the iPad.

Unified Color Scheme. Sources suggest that Apple has opted to release the initial version of its flexible smartphone exclusively in white, moving away from traditional black. This decision appears aimed at simplifying logistics and production processes.

New Selfie Camera Format. The internal display features a perfectly round cutout for the front camera, reminiscent of designs seen in Android smartphones. This integration marks a first for Apple’s product line.

External Display Format. There are conflicting reports regarding the cutout on the external screen; earlier designs indicated a circular window, while more recent schematics show a compact integration of the Dynamic Island feature, similar to that expected in the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro.

Despite speculation about reintroducing Touch ID into the power button, it is likely that Apple will retain its Face ID technology for both displays.

Technical Specifications. The official announcement for the iPhone Ultra is scheduled for September, coinciding with the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. Even though this device represents Apple’s first foray into the foldable market, analysts predict it will surpass all existing Android-based foldable devices in sales.

According to engineering data, the smartphone will feature a 5.5-inch external display and a larger 7.8-inch internal flexible screen. It will be powered by the new A20 Pro processor, manufactured using a 2-nanometer process.

Insiders also report that this model will include the largest battery in the history of the iPhone lineup, although its exact capacity remains undisclosed.

The main camera will be dual-lens, with developers choosing to exclude a telephoto lens in this initial iteration.

Hybrid Operating Systems: Expectations for WWDC. While the smartphone itself will be unveiled in the fall, experts speculate that Apple may showcase initial software developments at the WWDC 2026, particularly regarding a new operating system.

A specialized software version for the foldable device is being prepared, which will function as a hybrid of iOS and iPadOS. This architecture is designed to allow the interface to intuitively adapt to changes in screen orientation.

A Key Feature of the System will be the automatic scaling of applications. Programs not originally designed for flexible screens will be able to display correctly and without visual errors on the larger 7.8-inch display.

The upcoming iPhone Ultra, Apple's first foldable smartphone, is set to be officially announced in September 2026. Leaked details reveal a unified white color scheme, innovative camera designs, and a hybrid operating system tailored for flexible displays.
